After our escapades in Texas it was nice to keep it simple and relatively unchallenging at our next stop. We decided to spend the night and part of the next day at Grants KOA right off the 40 Interstate. This was a no-frills location, but at least they had power! After pulling in and dealing with a leaky fresh water tank (source of leak is suspected but as yet unconfirmed), it was time to get some much needed sleep.
After waking up the next morning we explored the campground and the adjacent hiking trail through the lava fields. Apparently this area is known for lava fields. Live and learn. Now that we’re only an hour off from Pacific Time we’re also dealing with less time in the mornings between waking up and the start of school, although we do have a bit more daylight on the back end.
After a busy day at work and school it was time to get back on the road again This was also where we needed to decide on which route to take home, either staying on the 40 through Arizona and Southern California or heading up north through Utah, Nevada, and Northern California along the 80. Apparently we didn’t get enough of the chilly weather as we picked the northern route, next stop Moab, Utah. Wish us luck!
So enjoy reading of your stops. Haven’t looked at all of them, but will. Just noticed you were in Nokomis and Venice, pretty close to where I live. Great that Mom and Dad will have the new house iN Venice, Lovely area. I hope next time, when it’s safe for all of us to be together, I can see them and you. Moab, Utah is beautiful- I know it will be a great time for you and the family. Stay safe and healthy.
Glad you’re enjoying the blog, Ellen! Yes, I’m sure we’ll be back in the Venice area in the future and hopefully this whole Covid business will be behind us by then and that we’ll get a chance to see you. Be healthy and be well!
