We stopped for the night at Diamond lake because it seemed like the nicest closest place to Crater Lake National Park, which doesn’t allow RV camping in the boundaries of the park itself. Both the lake and the adjoining RV resort seemed very nice in their own right, but we wouldn’t have much opportunity to take advantage of that.
Lucky for us, we pulled in and got set up with just enough time to walk down to the lake to catch a dramatic and wildfire smoke assisted sunset. It was definitely the most memorable sunset of our entire trip. Considering our late lunch, we felt ok getting ourselves ice cream for dinner at the lakeside pizza and ice cream shop before heading back up to our campsite.
We went to sleep worried that the smoke would follow us to nearby Crater Lake the next morning. The haze seemed to get better later in the night though, so I did try to take some star photos. Although between the moon and what was left of the smoke, they didn’t compare to what I took in Montana.
