Even after arriving directly from the Grand Canyon, the scenery in and around Lake Powell was amazing in it’s own unique way. Unfortunately even though this was also a two night stop for us, it fell during the week so we didn’t have much of an opportunity to explore the surrounding area. Due to Covid I’m not sure how much would have been available in terms of canyon tours anyway. We did go for a quick dip in the lake once and spent the rest of the time relaxing at the campsite.
In terms of the interwebs, this was the stop that was concerning us the most as our research indicated that the area around the lake was a cell phone dead spot and the campground wifi couldn’t be relied on for much (like all campground wifi). Our plan B was to drive back into the city of Page, Arizona and work from there if need be, but as we drove through town on the way to the lake, that area had zero service on both ATT and T-Mobile. In the end, while it certainly wasn’t great, the campground wifi was good enough. During the day we were all able to stick with our schedule and connect via WebEx and Zoom.
One interesting tidbit about our stay at Lake Powell was the fact that our campsite was about 50 feet from the Arizona/Utah border, which also meant if you walked north 50 feet you were in a different time zone. That played havoc on our phones and we were always wondering what time it was.
I’d say the highlight of this leg of the trip was our serendipitous stop at Horseshoe Bend national park. We weren’t planning on visiting this particular National Park but we found ourselves driving by it on the way to Lake Powell and since it was only a few miles out of our way on our drive to Colorado, we made sure to stop by on our way out of town.
The park itself is right off the highway and the scenic overview is less than a mile from the parking lot, although the view itself would have justified a much tougher hike than that. The view was amazing, and even though this national park was kind of a one trick pony – but it was an amazing trick. My joke about staying until dark to take some dark sky photos of the Bend was not received well, but at least I took some while we were at Lake Powell.
Hello my name is Alex F these pictures are amazing i would truly like to visit these places myself.
