I’m typing this up three hours after we’ve left Trinidad Lake State park after staying there for two night. It’s hard to believe but we’ve now been on the road for over a week. Between driving, work, school, setting up/breaking down the RV, and enjoying the locations we’re finding ourselves in – time is really flying. I remember thinking to myself, wouldn’t it be nice to have an Amazon Firestick in the bedroom so we could watch a bit of TV at night? Ha! Not one minute for that. The kids get to watch some TV in between video gaming on the long drives, but not so much for the adults.
Midway through our drive tonight we observed Rosh Hashanah in a Loves parking lot in Clayton, New Mexico with apples, honey, and gas station pizza. That’s a first for us, perhaps for all of humankind. Shana Tovah y’all!
But I digress, our stay at Trinidad State Park was really nice. Once again we rolled into the campground late at night and everyone else seemed to be asleep. After a quick walk for Boomer, we setup the RV and went to sleep.
The campsite was pretty large as far as these things go, and we didn’t feel crowded with our neighbors. Having full hook ups is always nice too. Once again, Lana comes up big with the nice reservation!
Our first day was like normal for the past week – work and school during the first part of the day. I did have an important meeting scheduled which always has me concerned about our connectivity, but somehow the state park managed to have great service and the meeting went well (and not just because of the fantastic ATT signal). Afterwards we went down to the lake for a walk and later grilled some burgers. It was definitely nice not having to worry about a long drive that day.
We did manage to have one adventure in the middle of the night too. We all woke up to a loud bang and the sensation of something hitting the RV. My first thought was that someone was trying to break in, my second thought was that a bear was trying to break in, my third thought was that one of the hydraulic leveling jacks had broken (I was probably most worried about this one).
In the end it turned out to be a can of bubbly water blowing up in the outside fridge, which happens to be right under our bed. What a gift! Much better than a felonias bear or bad hydraulic jacks. I do feel sad about that bubbly water though. It was one of my favorite flavors (mango).
Today we had more work/school but this time we had to vacate our campsite during the middle of all that and find a place to park the RV and continue on with our day. Fortunately the day use parking lots were completely empty and I got to take some calls at a park table overlooking the lake. One could get used to that.
Since we actually wanted to minimize our stay at our next overnight location (probably a gas station in Amarillo) we decided to spend the rest of the day enjoying the park. As it turns out the park had an archery range which we had all to ourselves. After that we hit the lake for some fishing (unsuccessful) and a beautiful sunset (successful). Then onto the previously mentioned Loves gas station and back on the road towards Amarillo, Texas.
